So today I got to babysit my adorable nephews. My older nephew Tyler LOVES trains especially Thomas the Train. One of the characters from Thomas the train happens to be named Emily the train. For my birthday Tyler gave me my very own toy Emily the train. So a few days ago when he found out I was going to be coming to his house today he said "when you come can you bring Emily to play with?" so this morning when I left I made sure she was in my purse.
So- point of the story... We were playing with all of his trains and he has some that "chug" aka move on their own, so I had thrown emily back in my purse while we played with his trains but then he looked at me and said "hey where is Emily?" (note the picture below there are two parts to the train) So I grabbed the front part and tossed
it to him. The rest of our conversation went like this
Tyler: Where is her coal car?....... Hey...... its Emily the train like you are Emily and she has a Coal car... like that guy Cole!
Me: Do you remember Cole?
Tyler: Yeah... where is he?
Me: Remember? He went to Russia!
Tyler: Russia!? woah, I've never even been there.
Me: Me either, He went to teach people in Russia about Jesus.
Tyler: Jesus? Oh! I learn about him in primary and there is a picture of him on our fridge!
I thought it was the cutest thing ever. First the whole Cole thing itself I just thought was darling but then I realized how amazing it is that a 3 year old child can have knowledge of Christ. I asked him what he knew about Jesus and he said "that he loves me". I realized how lucky I am to have been raised with that same truth that Tyler knows and I am even more grateful for my friends that have decided to devote 2 years of their lives to bring that knowledge and other incredible truths to people who don't know that.
The best part was that I came home from babysitting to find a letter from Elder Jacobson waiting for me in my mailbox! I'm so spoiled, that boy hasn't missed a week of sending me a letter yet. It was just an all around good day.
Basically, I love my nephew and his trains and I love my missionary.
