Day 9

A picture of the person who has gotten you through the most...

Hands Down, without a question that is my Mom
I got blessed with the greatest mom in the entire world. Somehow she knows how to deal with me, and thats saying a lot in itself. She has always been right there for me when I needed anything. I have always had a major problem with stressing and freaking out about things (even since elementary school) but even when I left for school at BYU,and she has always been right there on the other end of phone when I need to talk to someone. Whenever I am having a hard time she puts together the sweetest packages to send me and help just make my day that much better. She knows me better than anyone, what things I like, don't like, you name it. I can talk to her about anything. Everyone that has met my mom tells me how great she is, even today one of my friends that recently got home from their mission said to me "Even though your in Utah I might go over to your house to hang out with your mom because she is THAT cool". Its true. My mom is the best

Day 8

A picture that makes you laugh...

This picture isn't even that funny, it was probably a 'had to be there' moment... but the story behind it is that I was complaining that I have a huge head and that my sister's head is smaller and more proportional than mine... my mom said that wasnt true (which it is) so to prove it to me she decided to take a picture of our heads. This was the result of my mother saying
"okay girls smile on three!"...

After my mom took the picture she looked at it on the display of her camera and burst out laughing. Sometimes my Mom, Sister, and I have this problem where if one of us starts laughing then the rest join in and none of us can stop (even if we don't know why we are laughing). So we sat there hysterically laughing for a good 5 minutes to the point that my mom may or may not have pee'd her pants... this picture cracks me up every time I see it.

and I think its clear that I have a HUGE head.

but I keep of thinking of pictures that make me laugh so im just going to show a few more...

My Cousins Noah and Mataya

Day 7

A Picture of your most treasured item

I never had the privilege of knowing my Grandpa Rogers. He passed away when my dad was only ten years old. I have grown up hearing stories about him and I look up to him so much. He was a pilot and a Lieutenant Colonel for the U.S Airforce, he was a trained astronaut and was part of the Dyna-Soar program (look it up). I know that he loved his family, and loved his country... But another thing I know about him is that he loved to play the violin.

When my dad and his siblings were dividing his dad's things, somehow my family got the honor to get his Violin. When I was in elementary school I could NOT wait until I hit 4th grade so I could FINALLY get to go to orchestra and learn to play the violin. My parents are incredible and even though this beautiful antique instrument should probably be in a shadow box or some kind of protective case they let a little 4th grade girl lug it to school (even though I definitely was not ready for a full size violin yet I didn't want to play on anything else). I played this all through high school but then decided that to keep it safe, I should leave it at home when I left for college. One of the things I look forward to the most when I go home is to pull out my/my grandpa's violin and play it for hours. I love having something that I know meant a lot to my grandpa.

I love this old violin.

Bowling

Okay so I have a strange passion for bowling... I love it. Am I good at it? No. but i really enjoy it. My 2nd semester at BYU I took a half credit bowling class for fun and absolutely loved it. I never broke 200 but when you are bowling 3 days a week for an hour you do improve a lot so I got pretty dang close, but anyway... I went on a date a little over a week ago and from previous conversation he knew I liked bowling so he decided to take me. I think he anticipated that like most people I would be really bad at it and he asked me if I wanted to get bumpers (so insulting right? I guess he forgot that I'm Emily Rogers) so obviously I said no, then I think I sort of blew him out of the water when this happened....
Is that 152 to 115? it sure is! Like that turkey in the 9th and 10th frame? Yeah, I was pretty proud of myself. To get his man card back though he wanted to play another game, but then the lights went out and cosmic bowling started and unfortunately for me I CAN'T bowl well when the lights are out... i HATE cosmic bowling. I only scored like a 90 or something the 2nd game... so he did have a better total combined score but I didn't care, I still had the highest score of the night.

There isn't really a point to this post... just to say if anyone ever feels the urge to go bowling call me up because I'd go whenever.

Day 6

A picture of a person you'd love to trade places with for a day...

I've honestly never fantasized about things like "ooh I wish I were that celebrity (or person), I would be so much happier if I were as good looking or as talented or as rich as them". I just think its sort of depressing to do that. Why cant we just be happy with who we are instead of needing to be someone else? Maybe that sounds like a Miss America-esque answer

but its really how I feel.

But for the sake of them game, I need to pick someone... so I choose...

BOB BARKER
Seriously though... How fun would it be to give people sweet prizes all day?
I've always wanted to spin the Big Wheel, I bet if I were Bob they would let me.
I'm still upset they gave the show to Drew.

But now that I'm thinking about it my brain is rolling and I am also going to say...

Tabitha D'umo
Nappytabs

I'll be honest, it wouldn't be the worst thing to be able to dance and choreograph like she can. I'd want to be her on a night of SYTYCD where she had done a really cool dance and Nigel says "you guys really outdid yourselves this time" and everyone would clap or maybe a night she gets to judge. For real though how fun would it be to have a husband that would always dance with you? I sure hope I can find someone that will dance with me sometimes... or maybe even let me make up stupid dances and then be patient enough to let me teach it to him even if he has NO dance experience ever but will still learn it for me just because he loves me (even if he doesn't want to)... does anyone know a guy like that?

:)

Day 5: A picture of your favorite Memory

I sort of failed at keeping up with this.... but here goes my attempt to start up again... The photo challenge never said this had to be done consecutively right....

DAY 5: A picture of your Favorite memory
This is a picture from my sister's wedding. I look up to my siblings probably more than any child has ever looked up to their older brothers or sisters. But really. I am 8 years younger than my sister and 10 years behind my brother. For a lot of families, having that gap would make the last child naturally just not be as close to their siblings, but my brother and sister always did so much to make me feel like I was just as much one of their friends. When Jonathan was a senior in high school and Megan was a sophomore, I was in 3rd grade. This was a time of the pop sensations of Nsync and The Backstreet Boys. One day we all learned the dance to the music video "Its Gonna Be Me" by NSync.... 7 years later we were at Megan's Wedding reception and I watched Megan go up to the DJ and request a song. She then looked around and said "emily! jonathan!" and motioned us to the dance floor. As I met them on the dance floor "Its gonna be me" started pouring out of the speakers. Megan got a big smile and said "you guys remember it still right?" and for the next 3 minutes we gave our best performance for megan's wedding guests. I loved this so much. I know the whole story probably sounds so silly but it truly is one of my top favorite memories ever. I cant think of too many 18 year old boys that would learn a dance with not only his 16 year old sister but his 8 year old sister, or on top of that ever perform it in public. I'm so grateful for my brother and sister. They are 2 of my best friends.

Still being Crafty...

Again, my little disclaimer is that i am not a very crafty person at all! but these are the other two projects i have worked on over the summer...

So I am a HUGE fan of argyle patterns. I love it so much (even though some people make fun of me and say its nerdy). I have wanted an argyle room for a very long time and it took years to find just the right argyle bed spread. I got this comforter a few years ago and painted my room to match it but never got around to the finishing touches. Finally I decided to finish what I started. I found a website called bcrafty.com where you can go in and choose the font and size of wooden letters for VERY cheap! I was beside myself because I had been having the hardest time while looking at craft stores finding letters that were big enough and the fonts I wanted for a good price! Once I ordered those I ran to home depot and got a slab of wood and measured out the size of my argyle diamonds. With help of one of my friends, he taught me how to use a table saw and we cut the wood the way I needed it. I sanded and painted everything and with my mom's help got the ribbons that would look the best and with my daddy's help we got them hung up! I definitely couldn't have gotten it done without help from all of these people but i think it turned out SO cute. I love my room so much and it kills me to have to leave it now!

The Finished Project

The last thing I made this summer were these two magnetic boards. The blue one is going in my nephew's nursery and the pink one is going up with me to school! This project was super easy because all the materials were given to me from a left over craft project from our stakes Girls Camp 2 years ago so all I had to do was make it! I actually did have a really great time choosing out what paper would look the best and hammering the nails in. (Mod Podge is my new favorite thing and I keep trying to get ideas of new things I can make with it!)
I love that the word they gave me to put on them was "courage". I wasn't there for the girls camp lessons to know what the theme was to go along with the craft but it still really touched me. It may sound sort of silly but sometimes being away from home is really hard and scary for me, or sometimes I literally am scared to go take an exam, or sometimes I get scared that I will be broke at the end of the month even if i have done absolutely no leisure spending.... point is, sometimes courage is something that I'm lacking. This will be such a great reminder for me to have in my room to remind me to have courage each and every day and to face any trial with confidence. I hope Cannon likes having one in his room too! One of those magnets better be holding up a picture of his favorite Auntie Em that loves him so so much!

Craft time!

Okay so... I'm not a crafty person but I really wish that I was so for some reason I have been on this kick lately that I wanted to be more crafty and its sort of been taking off in the last week. I have one project that I'm working on that isn't blog worthy yet but out of the blue I started and finished a different one today!
So Cole's little sister Annie is turning 9 tomorrow and she invited me over for her birthday dinner so.... for who knows what reason I decided I wanted to make her birthday present. Maybe it was because she is always drawing me pictures or making me bend-a-roo sculptures to put in my room so my subconscious wanted to make her something? who knows but this was the final product of the project I came up with!...

I started off by going to Michael's and got:
scrapbook paper
Paint
Ribbons
a wooden A
a wooden board
Mod Podge
and a plain picture stand

First I sanded down the board to make sure that it was smooth and had no rough edges and then I painted it. (I painted the back Pink and the sides white)

Then I traced out the A onto the scrapbook paper cut it out, cut out the other paper to fit the space on the board then Mod Podged them on...

Then I tied some Ribbon around the A and the stand...

To finish it up I glued the A to the board with tacky glue....
it was super easy and if i do say so myself I think it turned out really cute!

The "Cole" Car

So today I got to babysit my adorable nephews. My older nephew Tyler LOVES trains especially Thomas the Train. One of the characters from Thomas the train happens to be named Emily the train. For my birthday Tyler gave me my very own toy Emily the train. So a few days ago when he found out I was going to be coming to his house today he said "when you come can you bring Emily to play with?" so this morning when I left I made sure she was in my purse.

So- point of the story... We were playing with all of his trains and he has some that "chug" aka move on their own, so I had thrown emily back in my purse while we played with his trains but then he looked at me and said "hey where is Emily?" (note the picture below there are two parts to the train) So I grabbed the front part and tossed
it to him. The rest of our conversation went like this

Tyler: Where is her coal car?....... Hey...... its Emily the train like you are Emily and she has a Coal car... like that guy Cole!
Me: Do you remember Cole?
Tyler: Yeah... where is he?
Me: Remember? He went to Russia!
Tyler: Russia!? woah, I've never even been there.
Me: Me either, He went to teach people in Russia about Jesus.
Tyler: Jesus? Oh! I learn about him in primary and there is a picture of him on our fridge!

I thought it was the cutest thing ever. First the whole Cole thing itself I just thought was darling but then I realized how amazing it is that a 3 year old child can have knowledge of Christ. I asked him what he knew about Jesus and he said "that he loves me". I realized how lucky I am to have been raised with that same truth that Tyler knows and I am even more grateful for my friends that have decided to devote 2 years of their lives to bring that knowledge and other incredible truths to people who don't know that.

The best part was that I came home from babysitting to find a letter from Elder Jacobson waiting for me in my mailbox! I'm so spoiled, that boy hasn't missed a week of sending me a letter yet. It was just an all around good day.

Basically, I love my nephew and his trains and I love my missionary.

I have the BEST mom

Okay so I'm taking a short break from the photo challenge just to give my two cents on how great my mom is. I know, i know everyone thinks their mom is the best (and i guess thats the great things about moms is that yours always will be the best) but really my mom is such

a sweetheart. She always is so thoughtful and puts together the sweetest things that she knows will make your day. Like one time after my first semester away at school when she picked me up at the airport she was waiting there for me in my convertible with the top down with a Fiji water and a box of charleston chews sitting on the passenger seat for
me. Thats just one example but She just always thinks ahead like that, so anyway when i got home from work/finals today i had a HUGE package waiting for me along with a letter. The letter was my Official acceptance into BYU's athletic training Program! woohoo! and the package was from my mom.

So obviously it was a good day. In the package my mom put a bunch of my favorite snacks and cereal to help "get me through finals" complete with oreos, flaming hot cheetos, bagels, apples and carmel dip, sunflower seeds, rice cakes, and Reeses Puffs. And there was a little "final survival" bag that had gum (which i always need during tests or else i bite my nails), Kit Kats (my favorite), a new pencil, then just cute stuff like hand sanitizer (since I'm in Microbiology and I've spent the semester learning about the microbes everywhere) and lip gloss. Also there was a big picture that she got that was super cute and totally fit me. Where she manages to find things that are always so perfect ill never know. She is just so great and knows how to make my day. I hope I can be half the mom she is someday. Thanks mom, you are the best and i cant wait to come home for the summer!!! See you in 5 DAYS!!

Day 4: A picture of your favorite night

Okay... how do you possibly pick a favorite night? It seems impossible, But really... so again i'm going to do a couple..

So one of them was this dress up night with Kristi. It was basically the last time we had a solid
girls night before she got married. I know I'm a 13 year old girl at heart but It was so fun. We said we were going to start a diet and instead went to Filibertos and made a Pizookie. Then we went crazy and put on all of my old dance costumes and took pictures.
I dont know why I love this night so much but I do.

Another one was when my mom came to visit me in utah! Sometimes the semesters seem so long when you dont get to see your family, so it was so fun having her here! We went and ate at the ski resort then saw burlesque then went to get me some new work pants... but how can you look at pants when they have fur coats and mad hatter hats in the store?

Another one was my Sadies Day activity to 6-Flags my Senior year. I mean who doesn't love a day of riding roller coasters right? But this post is about nights so the reason this makes the list of favorite nights is because (I give you permission to gag) on the drive home that night, it was the first time a certain person said I love you.

I would keep going because as I keep typing I think of more nights I want to put but... I guess I'll spare you all and stop :)

Day 3: A picture of the cast from your favorite show

It was impossible for me to pick just one...

Friends is the funniest show ever (maybe slightly inappropriate at times) but so good! nothing fixes a down day like a few episodes with theses guys. I hope to own all the seasons someday, I'm at half right now.

And I love 24

I dont care what you say, i dont wanna hear its predictable, i dont wanna hear its unrealistic, Jack Bauer is a boss enough said.

I'm back!/60 day Photo Challenge Day 1:

So.... the last time I posted anything on my blog was 3 years ago... oops. but im back and have decided to become a blogger! i still don't really know how this whole thing works but I'm trying! so to help get me rolling I decided to join the bandwagon and play this 60 day photo challenge game! yay! so here it goes...

Day 1: A picture of you with 15 facts

1. I adore going to the beach.

2. One of my favorite things to do is to go flying with my daddy. When he first got his pilot's license he used to wake me up early saturday mornings and ask if i wanted to go to breakfast in Marana or Flagstaff, i loved those trips with him. Oh, and i know the whole aviation alphabet- alpha, bravo, charlie, delta, echo, foxtrot all the way to zulu.

3. I am probably the most indecisive person you'll ever meet. making decisions is really hard for me True story: my 5th birthday party i cried after they sang "happy birthday" because i couldn't decide what to wish for, so my mom had them sing again

4. I have a 3 legged dog. His name is max. I taught him how to roll over before he lost his leg but now he can only get halfway around. its pretty funny.

5. I like Ice cream (especially in waffle cones), jeans, and new mascara way too much. but really they are my guilty pleasures.

6. I have been to a lot of concerts. I love them. Some are a little embarrassing to admit. Me and my sister not only went to Clay Aiken's but made shirts that said "Shakin For Clay Aiken" not even kidding. But probably a concert highlight was getting to sing We Didn't Start the Fire Live with Billy sitting next to my brother.

7. My lifetime dream is to own a hot pink car. It WILL happen.

8. When i was little all i wanted was an easy bake oven for a consecutive birthday Christmas birthday Christmas. Instead my dad thought it was such a great idea to buy me tubs of cookie dough and cake mixes because "cooking in a real oven is so much more fun". After hearing the story my sister in law felt so sorry for me for my 14th birthday she bought me my easy bake... i cried.

9. I go to BYU. I've always been a bigger ASU fan but i think after 2 years of school im to the point that my cougar pride= my sundevil pride "oh rise and shout..."

10.I can make 1, 2, and 3, taco rolls with my tongue. Most everyone can do 1 and lots can do 3 but have met few that can do 2. I'll show you sometime, youll be impressed.

11. My mom always said to me "lifes too short to eat generic cereal" Call me crazy but Marshmallow Mateys < Lucky Charms etc.

12.I always wanted to have a cast when i was younger. I thought it was so cool when kids had a broken bone and everyone got to sign their cast so i always hoped I would. Unfortunately I never broke a bone, fortunately i can now name every bone in the body thanks to pdbio 220.

13. I am not a picky eater... but after an unpleasant experience where i thought i was getting green jello i now HATE mint jelly. Oh and i also dont like Costa Vida's sweet pork... yep i just said that.

14. I made a life to do list in junior high and i have actually kept it. I havent added to it since but, i do look at it from time to time and feel very happy when i can cross something off the list.

15. I sing in the car, whether I'm driving or not... whether I'm alone or not... Loud.
